Admission Information for BMG

GRE score is NOT required.

There are NO Conditional Admissions for low grades or lack of English Language test scores.

STEP 1: FIND an Academic Advisor/Supervisor and OBTAIN a letter from them confirming they are available to supervise you.

Before applying to any graduate program, you must ensure that you have an advisor who is willing to acccept you as a graduate student. Contact only those faculty members who are currently accepting graduate students as indicated on the Faculty page, to inquire if they still have a position in their lab and are willing to accept you.

DO NOT mass mail professors. If you are considered harassing, your emails will be blocked.

  1. Send the selected faculty member your Statement of Intent. Include any publication(s), abstract(s), etc. This will be the only chance you have to tell the professor about your research and academic background.
*Be brief – no more than two pages double-spaced
If you do not get a response from the faculty member within six weeks, it would mean that either the faculty member is not interested in accepting you as student at this time or they have already taken in a student.
  2. Obtain written confirmation from the prospective BMG advisor/supervisor.
Note: If a BMG advisor/supervisorr asks you to formally apply to Faculty of Graduate Studies, it does not guarantee that you have been accepted in to the program. Final approval comes from the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies.
  3. FORWARD the written Advisor/Supervisor confirmation to the BMG Graduate Program Coordinator, at bmg@cc.umanitoba.ca  BEFORE you proceed with your application.

Your official application and documents will be evaluated by the Admission Selection Committee at the departmental level.

STEP 2: Check DEADLINE DATES

To ensure sufficient time for evaluation and processing, completed applications and necessary supporting documents, including confirmation of provisional acceptance from prospective advisor, should be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies at least one month prior to the dates shown in the table in the following link.
