The BYP Summer camp is an annual biomedical 5-day camp held at the Faculty
of Medicine, Brodie Centre, Health Sciences Campus, usually hosted in the last
week of July; it is free of charge to students, from grades 4-12, interested in science.
This camp, which started in 2006 with 15 youth participants, has now grown to
accommodate 220 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students in 2010. Managing and
organizing the camp is made possible with help from volunteers. The volunteers
are recruited from graduate students, medical students, community groups, and
parents who accompany their children. The volunteers act as supervisors, activity
and session leaders, and chaperones. Several hands-on activities conducted at the
summer camp, since 2006, are as follows:
