Med Rehab

The role of the rehabilitation team is to prevent and minimise disability while maximising independent living of individuals in their community. Responsibilities include direct patient care as well as education, client advocacy, and participation in community development activities. Therapists work with clerk/interpreters to provide quality services to their clients with an emphasis on culturally relevant intervention and support.

The Program is an initiative spear-headed by the NMU in conjunction with the School of Medical Rehabilitation at the University of Manitoba and with the support of the Government of Nunavut Department of Health and Social Services.

The staff is based in Rankin Inlet and frequently makes clinical visits to six other communities in the Kivalliq Region and to Sanikiluaq in the Belcher Islands. The rehab team is comprised of two full-time physiotherapists, two full-time occupational therapists, and one full-time speech language pathologist. Experienced locum staff and student programs, including fieldwork placements are also an integral part of the program.
