Relative Value Guide (RVG)
Academic Deliverables of Faculty Members

Overall Expectations
A) Assist in the creation of an academic environment that enables physicians and other healthcare providers in Manitoba to deliver excellent emergency medical care
B) Provide leadership in fostering a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, learner-centered educational program that is current and adaptable
C) Commitment to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills through mentorship, critical appraisal, self-assessment and the application of principles of life-long learning
D) Support the development of research skills for the faculty, residents, nurses and students

Baseline Expectations
All nil-appointed Faculty Members may qualify for the Baseline Stipend based on the following requirements (Directors of Departments and Programs are excluded):

Confirmed attendance at a combination of 12 of the following:
* University of Manitoba Department of Emergency Medicine Meetings, which include: Department Council, Fiscal Committee, Promotions Committee, Executive Committee, FRCP Committee, CCFP Committee, Research Committee, CPD (CME) Committee, Student Appeals Committee
* Emergency Department Site Meetings  (to a maximum of four annually)
* Faculty Development Sessions
* Faculty Retreat
* Resident Research Day
* Grand Rounds
* Trauma Rounds
* Journal Club

RVG Activities
Remuneration is based on the RVG Table Calculations (subject to change from year to year based on requirements of the Department, see Sample Form as an example).

All Faculty Members of DEM, as well as Physicians from other departments who contribute to RVG Activities will be considered for remuneration.

* Undergrad Lectures for Med 3-4
* Resuscitation Day
* Lecture sessions for Masters of Physician Assistant Studies Program
* Postgrad Academic Day Seminars
* Postgrad Practice Orals (including Department-scheduled, R5-scheduled, unscheduled)
* CaRMS Match (Interview Day; Selection Committee)
* Ultrasound for residents
* Simulation Sessions
* Grand Rounds presentations
* Trauma Rounds presentations
* Journal Club Preceptor
* M&M Rounds presentations
* Resident Research Day Judge
* Committee Work (Chair, Member) – active participation and attendance at committee meetings is considered; paid at the end of the calendar year

Research Deliverables
* Research Activities (as outlined in the RVG Table – subject to change from year to year based on requirements of the Department).  Paid at the end of the calendar year. All RVG-eligible research activities must be discussed with the Director of Research in advance, and are subject to review and approval on a case by case basis.
