Research and Scholarly Project Manager Application

The IT Section of the Department of Emergency Medicine was approached by the Section of Clinical Research to take a research database project written for Microsoft Access and translate if to a web enabled platform and extend it’s functionality. We have completed the first phase having translated it to a web accessible Rails implementation hosted at at http://em2research.com/. Currently it is a simple online application for coordinating research activities and generating reports on research activities. One can register and monitor ongoing projects as well as catalog completed projects and publications using this site. The plan now moving into phase 2 is to extend it's functionality to add support for calendaring and multiple organization hosting. The long term plan is to market the application back to other research departments at the U of M.

Staff Activity Reporter (STAR)

Acuity Software’s STAR system is a web based application that tracks faculty member activities (research, teaching/education, administration, professional) in a single data repository. Its reporting functions allow different users and administrative groups to extract and report data to address a variety of requirements. It allows the tracking and reporting of faculty member activities, which will give the Department of Emergency Medicine the capability to measure contributions and remunerate individuals according to their contributions.
