Program Description
This program is designed to prepare family physicians for rural and northern anesthesia practice through the acquisition of skills and judgment required to provide basic anesthetic services to low-risk adult, pediatric, and obstetric patients.

(1 Block = 4 Weeks. Total 13 Blocks = 52 Weeks)

Program Requirements
Applicants must be eligible for full registration with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. They must have successfully completed a two-year family medicine residency (or equivalent) and/or have received the CCFP designation. Applicants must have landed immigrant status or full Canadian citizenship. Applicants must have current ACLS certification.
Applicants must receive a job offer from a rural or northern community (regional health authority or facility) that will begin once training is complete. Job offers should include the opportunity to provide anesthesia as part of the practice.
Having satisfied the above conditions, applicants must next receive an offer of a training position from the Department of Family Medicine. Before beginning the one-year residency, the applicant must sign a Return of Service agreement with Manitoba Health, requiring the trainee to return service to a rural or northern area for a time equal to the period of time that was funded.
