Urban Stream

The urban stream is based out of two teaching units in Winnipeg:  Kildonan Medical Centre (KMC) at the Seven Oaks General Hospital (SOGH) and Family Medical Centre (FMC) at the St. Boniface Medical Centre (St. B) where the residents train during their Family Medicine Block Time.  Both units have robust outpatient and inpatient components.  Family Medicine Block Time is six months consecutive in the first year and three months consecutive in the second year.  St. Boniface Hospital is one of the two tertiary care centres in Winnipeg and the FMC residents do most of their off-service rotations at this hospital.  Seven Oaks General Hospital is a community hospital with a large family medicine presence.  The KMC residents do most of their off-service rotations either at SOGH or at the Health Sciences Centre, which is the other large tertiary care centre in Winnipeg.   However, residents may request to do any of their off-service rotations at any of the approved teaching hospitals or sites. All urban residents spend two months in a rural community as a rural selective during their second year of training.
