The University of Manitoba is conducting a search for a University Research Chair in Immunology of Infectious Diseases. The successful candidate should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with an anticipated starting date of September 1, 2013. Position Number: 14263.
The successful candidate must be a Clinician Scientist (MD) with the appropriate expertise and track record in research, and/or a MD/PhD scientist, with a well established research program related to the Immunology of Infectious Diseases with special interest and a proven track record in vaccine and immunization research. Candidates must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Chair will be cross appointed to the Departments of Immunology and Medical Microbiology as well as to the most relevant clinical department. Requirements for research infrastructure would be negotiated prior to the successful candidate’s arrival.
The Endowed Chair holder will be appointed for a term of 5 years, renewable after an appropriate successful review.
The successful candidate will occupy an endowed Chair known as the GlaxoSmithKline Professor of Immunology of Infectious Diseases Research, University of Manitoba. In this position the incumbent will provide leadership for our evolving research programs into the vital area of vaccination and immunization against infectious diseases. The incumbent is expected to promote and advance multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary and collaborative studies linking basic science and clinical (Adult and/or Paediatric) research within the disciplines of infectious disease. The successful candidate will occupy office and laboratory space within the new facilities of the Department of Immunology on the 4th floor of the Apotex Centre. They will also have full access to the facilities of the Department of Medical Microbiology including the Biosafety Level 3 facilities at the Department of Medical Microbiology site on the 5th floor of the Basic Medical Science Building, as well as collaborate with fellow scientists at the National Microbiology Laboratory, the Public Health Agency Canada and other International Infectious Disease Research Collaborations. The Department of Immunology consists of 31 full-time and cross-appointed academic basic and clinical research scientists. The Department of Medical Microbiology is comprised of 101 academic members including both basic and clinician scientists.
