Variety of Teaching Methods: Faculty members are committed to the ongoing learning and implementation of new teaching techniques and approaches. The academic component of the program uses a combination of seminars, lectures, clinical skills laboratory sessions, tutorials, problem-based learning, independent study, community service learning, and collaborative group work. | |

Excellence in Teaching: The U of M Department of Occupational Therapy employs a highly qualified, dedicated, and student-centred educational team consisting of faculty members and guest lecturers from the occupational therapy clinical community. The combination of faculty and guest lecturers provides students with a well-rounded wealth of knowledge given the multiple areas of expertise. State of the Art Facilities: The School of Medical Rehabilitation has recently undergone a million dollar renovation to the classrooms, laboratories, and research facilities, while the Neil John MacLean Health Sciences Library has undergone a $2.7 million renovation and expansion. The Clinical Simulation Learning Facility was opened in 2008, providing a hands-on learning environment for our students. | |

Excellence in Research and Scholarship: Occupational Therapy faculty members are actively and productively engaged in research and scholarly activities that promote the Mission and Vision of the Department. Faculty members hold national, provincial, and local research grant funds; conduct research into the various domains of interest of occupational therapists using qualitative and quantitative methods of inquiry; regularly publish their work in peer-reviewed journals and professional publications; present their innovations at peer-reviewed conferences and symposia; and are frequently sought after to speak at a variety of inter-professional meetings. |

Well Established School: The School of Medical Rehabilitation was established in 1960 and will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first graduating class in the fall of 2012. The MOT program has been offered since 2003. Ongoing program evaluation with input from all stakeholders, including the OT community and students, is highly valued and integrated to ensure a high quality educational program. | |

Professional Health Program (PHP): The University of Manitoba Professional Health Program is designed to support Aboriginal persons in professional health fields, including Occupational Therapy. This program is housed within the new Aboriginal Centre for Health Education at the Bannatyne Campus and provides academic and personal support. | |

Quality and diversity in fieldwork: Fieldwork placement opportunities can exist provincially, nationally, and internationally in a variety of diverse practice settings. These placements are interspersed throughout the two year program to provide students with well-rounded exposure to occupational therapy roles and to allow students the opportunity to integrate occupational therapy theory and practice. In collaboration with the OT community, our department also actively develops innovative and progressive placement opportunities to prepare our students for the expanding role of OT practice. |
