We are the student body of the School of Medical Rehabilitation (SMR). We are in the Departments of Occupational Therapy (OT), Physiotherapy (PT), and Respiratory Therapy (RT). The occupational therapy program has become a two-year masters program requiring a bachelor degree. There are approximately 50 students each year of the OT and PT programs. Both physiotherapy and respiratory therapy are three-year bachelor programs with one pre-university year required. Physiotherapy accepts 50 qualified new students into each year, and respiratory therapy is currently accepting 20.
What do we do?
STUDY!! But we also like to maintain balance and sanity with social affairs. Events are scheduled throughout the year to relieve stress and create a very cohesive student body (if anatomy doesn't). The second year students schedule events to welcome their first year "little sisters and brothers" to the program. The third years in physiotherapy and respiratory therapy try to take time off to get to know their first year "grandchildren." Other events throughout the year aim at getting to know the people from the faculties of Dentistry and Medicine as well as those from the School of Medical Rehabilitation at events such as Late Night Curling, Pub Crawls, Golfing, Boat Cruises and the formal dinner/dance, in addition to the many other events that occur with your new friends/colleagues.
Who is the Governing Body?
We are governed by our own student council body--SMRSA (PDF)--consisting of chairs (sticks) from OT, PT, and RT. Many of the decisions made which affect the students are run past the SMRSA in an effort to inform the students, but also to provide the student body a fairly loud voice within the school.
What other social events are there?
The social committee hosts many events throughout the year. At the beginning of each year, students receive a welcome letter with a list of social events planned for the year ahead. SMRSA social representatives handle advance ticket sales and announce any additional events or changes to the schedule. The social calendar usually contains the following events:
| Event | Place | Time |
| Welcome Barbecue | Campus | First week of school |
| Freshie Night | Wise Guys | First 2 weeks of school |
| Boat Cruise | The Boat | October |
| Winter Formal (Dinner/Dance) |
Delta Hotel | November 21st |
| Golf | TBA | TBA |
| Curling | TBA | February |
| Beer and Skits | CanadInns | April |
