Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group

Welcome medical students!
Thank you for your interest in the Obstetrics and Gynecology program at the University of Manitoba.

We have a student interest group that is open to all medical students attending our university.  The purpose of the student interest group is to provide medical students with information regarding the residency program and the many career paths available in our field.  It is an opportunity for interested students to have questions answered and gain experiences specific to obstetrics and gynecology.

In particular, we have an annual question and answer night, with dinner provided.  This is hosted by the residents, and supported by the department and our residency program director.  It has been well attended in past years.  It will continue to take place in the fall of each academic year.

CaRMS is the annual process of matching fourth year medical students to residency programs throughout Canada.  Our program interviews are generally between January and February each year.  We have two days of interviews.  The evening following the first interview night we host a dinner for the candidates that will interview in Winnipeg.  This has been a well-received event in past years, by local and out of town students alike, and is well attended by our residents.

Upcoming projects include the development of mentorship months, which will be opportunities for keen medical students to shadow residents on call.  This will provide excellent hands-on learning and a unique experience that will demonstrate exactly what our specialty is all about!  Another planned project is participation in a fundraising walk for ovarian cancer, a great way to get to know one another, raise money for a serious cause, and live healthy!
