Welcome Our Postgraduate Program is based on the tenet that residents are highly motivated learners who thrive on the acquisition of clinical skills. The resident has already acquired a substantial knowledge base and is capable of rapidly gaining expertise in his/her chosen area of interest. The most effective resident teaching occurs one-on-one and is longitudinal, facilitating progress up the learning curve. Educational excellence depends on the formation of mentoring relationships. Mutual trust and respect, with the recognition of reciprocal benefits, create a fertile educational environment in the clinical realm. |

The Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at the University of Manitoba has access to a rich variety and ample volume of clinical material. We are primarily based in two tertiary care teaching hospitals in Winnipeg. Over 10,000 high and low risk deliveries take place between Women’s Hospital and St. Boniface General Hospital each year. There are approximately 4000 gynecologic surgeries per year - major and minor, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic. In addition, there are regular ambulatory clinics in general obstetrics and gynecology, as well as specialty clinics in oncology, colposcopy, fetal maternal medicine, urogynecology, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, early pregnancy assessment, genetics and family planning. During the final year of residency, the resident chooses an attending physician as a clinical mentor. The resident functions as a junior consultant under the guidance of this physician, seeing patients in the office setting, performing surgery at a community hospital and providing continuity of care. |
