Med II consists of ten lectures, one tutorial and one clinical skills session. During the Med III MSR Clerkship rotation, two days are spent with clinical ophthalmology. These days are divided into: one half day oberving in the main operating room at Misericordia Health Centre, another half day is given to assisting in the minor operating room, and two half days are spent in private ophthalmologist's offices seeing regular patients.
Internet Tutorial
The highlight of the site is our Internet Tutorial, which is a case-based, interactive experience that tests your ophthalmology knowledge.
Electives
The Department of Ophthalmology provides elective opportunities to the University of Manitoba and visiting out-of province medical students. Ophthalmology Electives are available in two week periods contingent upon availability. Depending on individual areas of interest and specialists available, an overview is given encompassing cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatrics, ocular plastics, main OR, minor OR, oncology, neuro-ophthalmology, and non-surgical office visits. Interested students should refer to the University of Manitoba undergraduate electives webpage for further requirement.
Two week electives can be taken in the department and are available subject to capacity.
