Research Interests:Dr. Darryl Oble's research focus is on the understanding of enigmatic skin diseases including inflammatory skin diseases and cutaneous lymphomas. With respect to inflammatory skin disease, the Oble lab uses T-cell receptor transgenic mice to study the pathophysiology of human psoriasiform disease. This research involves dissecting the complex interplay of various immune cell subsets, cutaneous epithelial cells (keratinocytes), and microorganisms in the pathogenesis of these enigmatic disorders (psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis).Dr. Oble also studies human cutaneous lymphomas (particularly mycosis fungoides). Although there is ample evidence that genetic alterations occur in this condition, an initiating genetic change or a cytogenetic “signature” have not been identified. Such developments would illuminate disease pathogenesis and facilitate both diagnosis and the detection of minimal residual disease. Through the use of immunomorphological, cytogenetic and molecular approaches, the Oble lab hopes to address these issues and determine whether the diverse genetic changes documented in mycosis fungoides might represent different pathophysiological pathways. |
