The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics provides critical academic resources for three accredited professional degree programs at the University of Manitoba, Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing.
Our vision and mission are to be regarded as the primary source of knowledge and education concerning the development and use of drugs for the diagnosis and management of disease states in humans. Graduates from these programs serve as health care practitioners, academic staff and essential members of the health care industrial and government sectors, with considerable positive impact on the Provincial economy.
The core activities of our academic staff include research, teaching and service to the University and to the greater community. Faculty members of our Department focus their research in four general areas: cardiovascular pharmacology, drug metabolism and disposition, liver pharmacology, and neuropharmacology. The teaching provided by our academic staff is regarded as continually superior, and this is recognized by the numerous teaching awards by our staff members. Our faculty members serve on national and international bodies in excess of their expected representation. This presence in the national and international communities serves to reinforce our claim to be in the leadership of our discipline.
