Lorrie Kirshenbaum, Professor
Research Interests
Research in my laboratory is directed toward understanding the molecular pathways that regulate gene expression and transcriptional control processes in the heart that pertain to growth and differentiation. The overall goal of these studies is directed toward the long-term aspects of cardiac muscle cell regeneration after myocardial injury.
Current investigations include:
- The use of adenoviral gene transfer to introduce and study foreign gene expression in cardiac muscle cells in response to factors that modulate cardiac muscle cell growth and heart hypertrophy.
- Studies directed toward identifying putative regulators of the cardiac phenotype under both physiological and pathological conditions.
- Studies directed toward understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate cardiac muscle cell death after injury.
