The Department of Surgery provides elective opportunities to University of Manitoba and Visiting out-of Province/Country medical students.  Electives are available in two to four week periods depending on availability.  Rotations may be requested from General Surgery and Surgery Subspecialty Rotations.

Interested students should:

1) Read the requirements for electives, listed separately for University of Manitoba students and for visiting students.

2) Contact Ms. Karen Holmes at the Surgery Education Office - kholmes@hsc.mb.ca - with preferred dates and rotation choices.  Please state “Elective Request” in the email subject line.   Upon receipt, we will forward your request to the University of Manitoba Electives Program and to the Rotation Supervisors. 

Rural General Surgery is not available as an elective for University of Manitoba Med IV clerks or for external elective students.
