Educational Program Administrator: Ms. Michelle Elands
Pre-Medical Education
Pre-medical students are sometimes brought in to gain research experience, knowledge, and skills, doing data entry and carrying out simple research projects. During this process, they are often exposed to select clinical experience, seeing first-hand inside the world of orthopaedic surgery.
Undergraduate Education
Undergraduate Head: Dr. Jamie Dubberley
Undergraduate education includes routine medical student rotations as well as didactic lectures and group learning sessions in medical school.
Undergraduate education also includes Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medicine students who spend two summers doing research projects for the Section of Orthopaedics. In the past, such research projects have been conducted largely in the areas of Spine, Arthroplasty, and Sport Medicine/Upper Extremity. Many of our recent undergraduate BSc. students have won awards for their research, indicating the strength and value of this program. Many of these students continue on to residency and a career in orthopaedic surgery.
Graduate Education (Residency)
Program Director: Dr. Tod Clark
There are currently 16 residents in the Section of Orthopaedics. While the number can vary, there are typically three residents in each year of the five-year program.
The Residency Program is conducted under the watchful eye of Program Director Dr. Tod Clark. Dr. Clark began his role as the Program Director in March of 2012. Recent success of residents in their Orthopaedic Fellowship Exams attests to the viability of the Residency Program.
The residents not only have access to clinical skills but also have one full academic day per week (Wednesday) free of clinical commitments. The Wednesday morning half-day comprises academic lectures and practice oral exams, while the afternoon is reserved for research.
