Vision/Mission
To add to the urologic body of literature in all areas of urologic practice through national and international clinical trial participation, local and national collaboration with other urologic groups, analysis of local clinical practice and quality assurance of these practices. Current exciting local initiatives involve data management and analysis of prostate cancer/prostatic diseases and tumor banking of prostate cancer at the Manitoba Prostate Center.
Overview
Currently research in the section of Urology is expanding with the addition of new faculty members who bring expertise from fellowship training such as transplant surgery and robotics. There is considerable expertise in urologic oncologic research that has been demonstrated in past years and continues to very strong with local projects, collaborative national projects, and a strong clinical trial portfolio in all areas of genito-urinary oncology. All residents in urology are currently involved in research efforts and are expected to complete projects during their resident years. An annual section of Urology research day has been very successful in past and continues to be so with resultant publications of resident research projects. Medical students with interest are also actively engaged in urologic research during research electives with the research director and these have resulted in publications that aid in medical student application to residency programs. The research capabilities for the section of Urology will continue to be strong and grow with recent expansion of research personnel including data coordinator and dedicated research nursing positions at the Manitoba Prostate Center
