The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma is a unique one year program in which students design their own program and tailor it to their area of interest. Collaborative piano students receive two hours of private lessons per week, in addition to participation in Masterclasses, collaborations, and coachings with faculty members.
Coursework is normally chosen from the list of collaborative piano electives and complimentary courses from other faculties. This program requires the successful completion of 30 credit hours of coursework, of which a minimum of 18 credit hours must be taken within the Faculty of Music.
Major Practical Study
MUSC 5400 (6 Credit Hours) » Individual instruction in the instrument area of study at the Post-Baccalaureate level.
Recital
MUSC 5560 (6 Credit Hours) » Preparation and performance of a public, full-length recital at the Post-Baccalaureate level. The program, must be approved by the applied instructor and the jury committee judging the recital. It should include an appropriate balance of solo and chamber repertoire.
Ensemble
MUSC 5180 (3 Credit Hours) » Participation in a Faculty of Music ensemble as is appropriate to the student's background and/or major applied area. (To be decided by the Major Practical Study Teacher in consultation with the ensemble committee).
Sonata Duo
MUSC 7860 » Exploration of sonatas written for piano with one other instrument. This course can be repeated up to three semesters. This course is taken as a Topics in Music course.
Italian and German Diction
MUSC 7060 » Advanced training in rules of pronunciation, language use and translations skills in Italian and German. This course is taken as a Topics in Music course.
English and French Diction
MUSC 7070 » Advanced training in rule of pronunciation, language use and translations skills in French and English. This course is taken as a Topics in Music course.
Piano Chamber Music Literature Seminar
MUSC 4390 » A selected survey of piano chamber music.
Coaching Skills
MUSC 4520 » Introduction to and training in philosophies and techniques of vocal coaching including both song and operatic repertoire.
Operatic Piano
MUSC 4530 » Development of skills required of an operatic pianist, including standard arias, operatic scores, working with conductors and developing an orchestral sound. May include participation in community opera events. By audition only.
