The Prep Studies Piano Concerto Competition is an auspicious event held in Eva Clare Hall early in each new calendar year. The competition is open to ages 7 and above, with each bi-age level competing in a different category, along with collaborative pianists who may include teachers and or other artists.
The competition has one adjudicator, who provides a written adjudication if requested.
Winners in each level receive a modest money award as well as a certificate. Piano concerto winners are included in the Enrichment Program Spring Gala Concert – as many as time permits!
Concerti competitions are often considered to be a stepping-stone into the professional world of music. For us, this is one of many good reasons to participate. Among other reasons, it is simply a wonderful way to celebrate the instrument and its potential, both musically and as a vehicle for optimum interaction between two human beings. To quote Leonard Bernstein, "This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." A list of repertoire considerations is provided here.
Choices need to conform to performance time allocations as per the concerto regulations.
The competition will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013. Deadline for submission of application form is January 7, 2013.
More information on this competition from previous years may be found in the online newsletter Pausa.
