The next application deadline is January 15, 2014 to begin a program in September 2014.
Students wishing to study at the UNDERGRADUATE level at the Faculty of Music must complete the following steps:
University of Manitoba application - online submission is the preferred method of application:
the following required documents may be uploaded to your UM application through the new Apply Yourself (UM Connect portal)
or sent directly to the Desautels Faculty of Music at 65 Dafoe Road, Winnipeg
- Faculty of Music application (fillable on-line .pdf)
- separate Music application instructions
- fill out and submit a separate application to the Faculty of Music
- submit at least two letters of reference (fillable on-line .pdf)
- submit official transcripts to the Faculty of Music
- submit personal essay to the Faculty of Music
Faculty of Music Entrance Auditions
Once the applications have been received, the student will be contacted by the Music Admissions Coordinator with designated audition date and time.
In-person audition dates for September 2014 entry:
Bachelor of Jazz Studies - February 14-16, 2014
Bachelor of Music - February 17-22, 2014
In-person auditions in all areas may include:
* sight reading &/or sight singing
* aural & technical skills
* a short interview

Bachelor of Music, Composition - a portfolio of scores and recordings, as well as an audition on an instrument or voice
Bachelor of Music, Piano - three pieces in contrasting styles, 10-12 minutes of music

Bachelor of Music, Voice - three contrasting pieces in at least two languages, including one selection in English

Written Music Theory Test:
As part of the audition process, students will take a written music theory test which assesses competency in basic music theory. This test is usually written on the day of the in-person audition.

In the past, students have been most successful in the audition and music theory test when they have achieved a level of musicianship comparable to the Conservatory Canada or Royal Conservatory of Music
Grade 8 for piano and strings
Grade 7 for voice, woodwinds and brass
Grade 6 for organ
