Professional Bio:
Joan Linklater holds a B.M. from Brandon University, an M.M. from the University of Michigan, an ARCT in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, and Orff certification from the University of Denver. She is currently Associate Dean, an Assistant Professor of music and chair of the music education department at the Faculty of Music, at the University of Manitoba. She teaches courses in elementary music education and aural skills and is the coordinator of the highly respected Orff Certification Program at the University of Manitoba. She aslo maintains a lively studo of Suzuki piano students. She is currently the first vice president of the national executive of Carl Orff Canada.
Joan presents hands-on workshops locally and nationally. These include materials for students from kindergarten to grade five. She communicates the joy of music making with children through careful presentation of Orff pedagogy and process. She presents activities that help children develop their music reading and performing skills including movement, singing, speech, improvisation, recorder and listening lessons. Her teaching helps participants understand how to develop the full potential in their students by enriching their lives with music.
