If you are interested in applying for membership to the MCNHR, please provide us with a brief letter outlining why you are interested in being a member, and include a recent copy of your CV/resume and communication from your supervisor, manager, or director that they support your membership in the MCNHR. The application will then be vetted through our Nominating/Membership Committee.
Research Affiliates
An individual who normally holds a full-time academic appointment in the Faculty of Nursing or another Faculty at the University of Manitoba or with another University and who, as a result of his/her research expertise and achievements in nursing and/or health research, desires an affiliation with the MCNHR which would be of mutual benefit to both the Centre and the individual. There is no salary associated with the appointment. The individual is expected to contribute to and share in the research activities of the Centre. Research Affiliates will normally hold a doctoral degree but may also possess a Master’s degree and several years of experience.
Professional Affiliates
An individual who is primarily employed by a health care related organization, institution or company other than the University and who, as a result of that employment, desires an affiliation with the Centre that would be of mutual benefit to both the Centre and the individual. There is no salary associated with the appointment. The individual is expected to contribute to and share in the research activities of the Centre but will not normally have any duties associated with the appointment. Professional Affiliates will normally be expected to hold a minimum of a Master’s degree, and be involved in conduct of nursing and/or health research or the translation of research results into practice (e.g., Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Health Care Administrator).
Friend of the MCNHR
An individual who is supportive of the MCNHR including its vision, mission and activities. A friend of the MCNHR may contribute and participate in activities of the MCNHR. Friends of the MCNHR may include alumni, former research assistants/staff, retired nurses, volunteers, donors and others.
Graduate Student Affiliates
Membership is open to all current graduate students in the Faculty of Nursing or current graduate students in the PhD program in Applied Health Sciences, Interdisciplinary PhD, or PhD in Cancer Control whose advisor is a member of the Faculty of Nursing. Graduate Student Affiliates are eligible for MCNHR awards, services and resources and are expected to contribute to and share in the research activities of the MCNHR.
Research Associate
A person who possesses the qualifications and expertise to conduct research activities in collaboration with members of the centre and other researchers. Duties may include supervision of research assistants and other technical personnel and participation in various aspects of faculty and student research. Research Associates will normally have a paid appointment with the Faculty of Nursing and hold a minimum of a Master’s degree.
Post-Doctoral Fellow
A scholar with a doctoral degree who (i) has been awarded, in competition, support in the form of a fellowship, or (ii) has been supported on a research grant. A post-doctoral designation is for a limited period of time and is designed to further the knowledge of fellows in teaching, advanced study or research through collaboration with affiliates of the centre.
Visiting Academic
A person who is appointed for a term or terms not to exceed two years, to teach or conduct research at the University of Manitoba while holding a permanent appointment at another institution, Canadian or foreign, to which the person will return at the end of the visiting term.
The Researcher-in-Residence may be granted an appointment as a visiting academic.

Current Members
Members will be eligible to access a variety of research support services and funding opportunities provided by the MCNHR.
Members will be expected to participate in the MCNHR activities including the Annual Meeting, Research Seminar Series, Researcher in Residence and contribute to committees of the MCNHR. They will also be expected to submit an annual report of their research and scholarly activities, which will be incorporated into the MCNHR Annual Report.
