January 8 - The Manitoba Bison women’s hockey team has rocketed
to a fantastic 13-2-1 start (.812 winning percentage) over the first
16 conference games during the 2007-08 season. This is the fastest
start in the 11 year program’s history.
Manitoba
is also coming off their first ever back-to-back shutout victories
in team history (Jan. 4: 4-0W over UBC; Jan. 5: 3-0W vs. UBC).
Heading
into this weekend, the Bisons are seeking to tie a team record for
wins in a regular season. Last season, the team established a new
mark with 15 and the Herd can tie the record with a weekend sweep
and still have six conference games remaining in the 2007-08 season.
In addition, Manitoba can set a new record for team points in a
regular season as they sit with 27 and the old record is 30 (last
season).
The
Bisons are ranked #4 in the country and will face #10 Saskatchewan
Huskies (6-7-3) at home this weekend. The two game series will be
on Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12. Game time for both
games is 7 p.m. at Max Bell Arena. The important series will be
a battle between two ranked teams and the Bisons are tied with Alberta
for first place as both teams are tied with 27 points in the standings.
