30) TORONTO (CIS) – At today’s TSN Russ Jackson / CFL CIS Coach
of the Year Awards Luncheon, University of Manitoba Head Coach Brian
Dobie was honoured as the 2001 Canadian Interuniversity Sport
(CIS) Football Coach of the Year. Dobie received the Frank Tindall
Trophy, which is selected by the Carleton University Old Crow Society.
Dobie is the first Manitoba coach to be selected as CIS Football
Coach of the Year since Henry Janzen was the inaugual recipient
in 1969. This is Dobie’s 4th season as Head Coach of the Bisons
and during his tenure he has brought the team from a winless season
in 1998 to a berth in the Vanier Cup.
The
37th Vanier Cup will be played this Saturday, December 1 at 5:00
p.m. in Toronto. In 2001, Manitoba has put together a 10-1 record
and is making its first appearance in the national championship
game of Canadian university football since 1970. In that season,
Manitoba defeated the University of Ottawa 38-11. Dobie has been
honoured as the Canada West Coach of the Year three consecutive
seasons.
The
Bisons have won back-to-back conference regular season titles.

Greg Marshall of McMaster University was the 2000 recipient of the
Frank Tindall Trophy as CIS Coach of the Year.
