October 6 - Both Bison cross country teams were in action at the U of Sask Open in Saskatoon, SK on Saturday, October 6. The #8 ranked Bison men's team won the team title with 30 points (12 points better than second place Calgary) while the women's team fell one point short of third place host Saskatchewan with 88 points.

Bison Cross Country Head Coach Claude Berube said, "I am happy with the results as we had another good meet. The men's team had several strong performances and the women's team had good individual showing."

On the men's side, Kristjan Hunter continued his very strong season with a second place finish to last season's CIS champion Calgary's Geoff Kerr. Hunter completed the 8km course in a time of 25.49. Manitoba fielded three runners in the top 10 as rookies Desire Budigoma (26.38) and Colin Barnett (26.45) finished fourth and sixth place. Rounding out the Top 15, Patrice Leclercq was 12th (27.03) and Eric Tranquada was 15th (27.10). There were 69 runners in the men's field.

Georgette Mink led the Bisons women's team with a ninth place finish in the 5km race in a time of 18.39. Rookie Alice Sherwin was the second best Bison result in 30th (19.36). The other Bison runners were Melanie Gregoire in 33rd (19.57), Lacey Ginter in 42nd (20.29) and Gina Tessman (20.30). There was 79 women competitors.

Manitoba Bisons cross country teams will compete at the Manitoba Championship at LaBarriere Park on Saturday, October 20.
