| University of Manitoba Withdraws from Wrestling and Field Hockey |
May 13 - The University of Manitoba announces the withdrawal of Men's and Women's Wrestling and Women's Field Hockey from Canada West Competition. At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association the request to withdraw from these sports effective for the 2004/2005 academic season was accepted by the membership. "In a highly competitive conference such as Canada West it was becoming increasingly more difficult for us to maintain our programs. A review of our goals and priorities, with the aim of reflecting current sport needs in the province, as well as our financial ability to address these needs, led us to this most difficult decision" stated Athletic Director, Coleen Dufresne.
