October
27 - The No. 3 ranked University of Manitoba Bisons ran their undefeated
record to 8-0 on the 2007 season Saturday, extending the Simon Fraser
University Clan’s winless streak to 25 games with a 22-0 win over
the Clan. SFU falls to 0-8 on the season.
The Bisons will host the University of Calgary Dinos at home next
weekend in the opening round of the Canada West playoffs.
After
racking up a 19-0 halftime lead, the Bisons moved the game into
cruise control, adding only to their lead with a 40-yard Scott
Dixon field goal in the fourth quarter.
Manitoba
opened the scoring when Matt
Henry capped a six-play 93-yard drive, taking a handoff to the
left of the line, walking in untouched six minutes into the opening
quarter.
Dixon
netted his first field goal of the afternoon later in the first
with a 13-yard field goal, finishing off a ten-play 89-yard drive
at the 13:41 mark of the first.
In the second quarter, quarterback John
Makie drove Manitoba to the SFU five-yard line, throwing a five-yard
touchdown strike to Simon Blaszczak to put the Bisons up 17-0.
Later
in the second Makie again drove the Bisons deep into Clan territory,
however a fumble by Manitoba gave SFU the ball at their own five.
After a two-and-out, the Clan were forced to concede a safety, making
the score 19-0 at the half.
Makie
finished the afternoon 15-for-24 for 235 yards, with one touchdown
and one interception. Karim
Lowen was the Bisons leading rusher, churning out 85 yards on
17 carries. Terry
Firr caught five receptions for 85 yards.
For
the Clan, Jordan Scheltgen completed 14-of-28 passes for 106 yards,
while rushing for a team high 13 net yards on the ground. Ray Wladichuk
