- Both University of Manitoba Bison’s mens and lasdies teams won
their first tournaments of the year this past Friday, September
7th. It was is first for the program, having both teams winning
a tournament the same day. It was the 10th win for the mens team
since the program was started 7 years ago and the ladies team’s
3rd win.
The
men's squad won the Concordia Invite which was played at Meadows
Golf Course in Moorhead, Minnesota. The team won by four strokes
over Concordia-Moorhead.
The
women earned a one stroke victory over UND in the Cobber Open at
Wildflower GC in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Sarah Stebeleski finished
tied for sixth with an 83, just two stokes off the lead. Faye Zachedniak
(T8), Anne Thorimbert (13), and Angela Klindtworth T14) all placed
in the top 20.
The
men’s team was led by 5th year player and Education Major, Lucas
Skelton, on a very windy, cool day at the Meadows Golf Course in
Moorhead, Minnesota. Skelton shot a 73 good for 3rd place individually
while younger brother, Jesse finished 5th with a 75. Number 1 team
player and 3rd year Management Major, Eric Johnson had the shot
of the day. He made a hole in one on the 152 yard, 8th hole with
an 8iron enroute to a 76. The Team 2 finished a very respectable
8th place out of 12 teams, lead by rookie Bison and 2nd year Management
Major, Nathan Wasney’s 76.
