January
22 - The Manitoba Bison men’s hockey team returns home to
host their first conference games for the second half of the 2007-08
season. The Herd is seeking the first victories of 2008 when they
skate against the UBC Thunderbirds (11-11-0) on Friday, January
25 and Saturday, January 26 at 7 p.m. at Max Bell Arena.
Manitoba
is in a tight battle with UBC in the Canada West standings. The
Bisons are three points back of the T-Birds (with two games in hand)
and fighting to climb back up the conference standing. UBC sits
in fourth while Manitoba is fifth and there is only six points that
separates third place Calgary with sixth place Regina in the highly
competitive Canada West.
The
Herd looks to extend their winning streak against UBC as they swept
them earlier this season. On the road, Manitoba won 4-3 on Nov.
2/07 and 3-2 on Nov. 3/07.
In
the conference season, Manitoba is fifth in goals at 60 and fourth
in goals against with 71. The Bisons are sixth with 511 conference
shots (25.5 avg.) and tied for third with one shutout. The Herd
is fourth in conference penalty kill at 84.1% (23/145) and seventh
in power play at 12.9% (15/116). Manitoba is fourth least penalized
Canada West team with 494 minutes. |
