November
2 - The Manitoba Bisons scored three unanswered goals in the third
period to hand the No. 4-ranked UBC Thunderbirds a bitter 4-3 loss
Friday at the Winter Sports Centre.
UBC (6-3-0) looked to be on pace for its fourth straight win through
40 minutes, but things fell apart, especially late in the third.
Chris
Falloon tied things up for the Bisons with 2:46 remaining, slicing
through the UBC defence in the offensive zone before roofing the
puck over a sprawled Gerry Festa.
Then
with 1:24 remaining, Mark Olafson banged in the winner from the
side of the net after Kyle Nichols' point shot bounced off the end
boards back out front of the net.
Curtis Billsten and Marc Desloges opened up a 2-0 lead for UBC with
goals in the first five minutes of the second period. After Wade
Davison pulled Manitoba within one, Jovan Matic seemingly put UBC
back in full control at 12:17 of the middle frame with his first
in conference play.
UBC outshot Manitoba 37-30 on the night with Krister Toews turning
aside 34 pucks and Festa making 26 saves.
UBC
was 1-for-6 on the power play and killed off five man-advantages
the other way.
The same two teams face off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Winter
Sports Centre.
