3 - The Manitoba Bisons iced the UBC Thunderbirds this weekend with
a 4-3 victory on Friday and a 3-2 win on Saturday.
The
Herd started quickly on Saturday, as Rob Smith and Mark Olafson
scored goals just two minutes apart mid-way through the first period.
UBC
took their only three penalties of the game in the first frame and
Olafson's goal was scored on the powerplay.
The
Thunderbirds got on the scoresheet in the second on a 5-3 with Olafson
sitting in the box for a Hitting From Behind miscounduct when Curtis
Billsten beat Krister Toews.
UBC
tied the game late in the period with an even strength marker from
Marc Desloges, but Manitoba responded 30 seconds later as Kyle Nichols
scored the game winner.
Toews
shut the door on the Thunderbirds in the third, making 10 of his
32 saves.
The
Bisons are now 5-3-0 and sit comfortably in fourth place of the
Canada West Conference, just two points back of UBC with two games
in hand.
Manitoba
will stay on the road and face Lethbridge next weekend. Their next
home action will be November 16 & 17 when Calgary visits the
Max Bell Centre.
