September 28 - Lisa Kissick (Carman, Manitoba) scored the lone goal
for the Bemidji State women’s hockey team in a 1-0 victory
over the University of Manitoba in an exhibition matchup Friday
night at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
The
Beavers started sluggish and had a hard time maintaining possession
of the puck early in the contest. Bemidji State gave Manitoba opportunities
early with the first three power plays, but the Bison were unable
to convert on the man-advantages.
Amy
Coates was called for holding with 10:15 remaining in the second
period, giving BSU its second power-play of the game. BSU was unable
to take advantage of the opportunity, but the Beavers were able
to use the switch to get an opportunity on the Manitoba goaltender.
Coates
came back onto the ice, and just 25 seconds later, Kailee Jaeger
(Devils Lake, N.D.) and Jessica Pullar (Elk River, Minn.) passed
it around the zone in front of the net to Kissick, who knocked it
past Stacey
Corfield for the goal. The score occurred 12:40 into the second
period.
Emily
Brookshaw (Webster, Wisc.) began the game in net for BSU and led
the way with 10 saves. Jessica Ptachick (Apple Valley, Minn.) played
the second period and earned five saves, while Jennifer Bauer (St.
Catharines, Ontario) played the third period and converted two saves.
The three goaltenders combined to pitch the shutout for Bemidji
State, and Ptachick was credited with the victory.
Stacey
Corfield played all but the final eight seconds of the game for
Manitoba, and she had 19 saves with one goal allowed.
Bemidji
State outshot Manitoba 20-17, and also had less penalties with eight
to Manitoba’s 10. BSU has never lost to the Bison, improving
its overall record to 3-0-1.
