28 - The University of Regina Cougars’ 2007 season ended on Sunday
afternoon after a 3-1 defeat to the No. 8-ranked Manitoba Bisons at
the U of R Field.
The
Bisons (10-4-0) got goals from Caley
Miskimmin, Karli
Colpitts, and Stephanie
Rurak in the span of 11 minutes in the early stages of the first
half to take a 3-0 lead.
First-year
forward Nakia Forsberg replied for Regina (0-12-2) in the second half,
scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Michelle Anderson was given the assist on the strike, as she finessed
a pass through the Bisons’ back line to hit a streaking Forsberg.
The
Cougars had a few more opportunities to cut into the lead, but Manitoba
prevailed by a two-goal margin for the second consecutive afternoon.
Making
her first start of the season, Chera
Kirkpatrick made two saves to secure the win for the Bisons. Alyssa
Stoeck recorded seven saves in the net for Regina.
Forsberg,
Stacey Wilson, and Natalie Crowdis were each assessed yellow cards
for the Cougars. The teams combined for a total of 16 fouls.

Manitoba
Bisons women's soccer team completes 2007 regular season with a 10-4-0
record (30 points) and finishes in third place in the Canada West
standings. Manitoba makes the playoff for the first time in their
three year CIS history.
The Bisons will play their first round playoff match aginst Alberta
(6-7-1) on Thursday, November 1 at the host UBC during the Canada
West playoffs.
The team establishes new team records for most wins at ten (old record:
6 in 2006) and points at 30 (old record: 19 in 2006) in their three
year history in CIS action. The Bisons also scored 28 goals in 2007
to break old team record of 24 goals scored in 2006.
In addition, Colpitts scored her tenth goal of the season to tie the
Bisons record of most goals in a regular season (old record: 10 by
Caley Miskimmin in 2005). Colpitts also scored her fifth game winning
goal for the most in team history (old record: 2 by several players
in 2005 and 2006). Goaltender Ashley Forbes beat her old record of
most shutouts in a season by having four in 2007 (old record: 3 in
2006).
