3 - At the 26th annual Prairie Winter Invitation (PWI) held at the
Pan Am Pool from November 29-December 2, 2007, Braeden Taylor swam
to three victories in breaststroke events.
Taylor
ended a successful weekend with three wins during the Prairie Winter.
He won the 50m breaststroke event in a time of 29.60 (2/100th off
meet record). The third year Environmental Studies student-athlete
was also the winner in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:04.84
and 200m breaststroke victory in a time of 2:18.38. Another meet
winner was the Bison men’s 200m medley relay team placing
first in a time of 1:47.34.
Throughout
the meet, the Bisons full squad swam strong performances with another
Bison – Brent Collins – reaching CIS Championship qualification
standard.
Other
strong Bison women performances at the PWI included Jenna Houssin
being second in 50m breaststroke, sixth in 100m breaststroke and
ninth in 200m breaststroke. Kerri Ann-Bochen was third in 200m butterfly
and 400m IM, fifth in 200m breaststroke, seventh in 100m breaststroke
and tenth in 50m breaststroke, Rita Laszlo finishing ninth in 50m
breaststroke and tenth in 50m butterfly
On
the men’s side, Brent Collins was second in the 50m backstroke,
third in 100m backstroke, fourth in 50m freestyle and eighth in
400m IM. William Wellborn was fourth in 50m, 100m backstroke and
sixth in 200m backstroke; Casey Gergely was second in the 100m butterfly,
fourth in 20m butterfly, eighth in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke.
Willie Bell finished sixth in 50m freestyle. The Bison men’s
200m freestyle relay team finished third.
Bison
swimming head coach Vlastimil Cerny said, “The team swam very
well during Prairie Winter with several swimmers posting personal
best times. Jenna swam hard while Kerri-Ann had a great meet. All
the men swam well with Braeden earning his wins and Brent qualifying
for CIS.” |
