January 17 - The Bison track and field teams finished another competition at the Grand Prix #3 on Wednesday, January 16 at Max Bell Fieldhouse. A majority of the team competed with three more athletes making travel standard. The total is now 55 Bison athletes making travel standard so far this season.

The Bison men’s track and field team started the New Year ranked as the number one team in the country in the latest CIS Top 10 poll. This was the first time the men’s side has been ranked at the top position since 2004 (week of January 7/04).

This week, the Bison men’s track and field team is ranked number three and the women’s team is ranked number nine in the latest CIS Top 10 poll. Manitoba men are the top ranked Canada West school while the women are ranked third in the conference.

Individually, Quin Ferguson (600m) is ranked second in CIS and Paul Carr is sixth while Kristjan Hunter is seventh and Mitchell Man in 1000m. Colin Barnett is sixth in the 1500m while Hunter is fifth in 3000m. Scot Dressler is sixth in pole vault, Nathan Labbe is sixth in long jump and Garth Suppes is fourth in weight toss. The men’s 4x200 and 4x800m relay team are second in the CIS rankings.

For the women, Jana Cassidy is eighth ranked in CIS ranking in 300m and seventh in 600m. Georgette Mink is third in 1500m and sixth in 1000m. Victoria Robson is fourth in pole vault. The women’s 4x200m relay team is top ranked in CIS so far this season.
