21 - The Manitoba Bison lost three close sets to the Huskies in
men's volleyball action Friday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
All three sets of the evening were hard fought, tough games were
neither team allowed the other more than a two point lead.
Game
one of the evening set the tone with fast paced action at the net,
excellent rallies, huge attacks and plentiful stuff blocks. The
Bisons came close to taking the lead several times but were unable
to capitalize. The game closed 25-21 for the Huskies.
Game two was the game of 'ties'. Neither team allowed the other
to get any semblance of a lead. The game was tied for most of the
set at 10, 11, 12, 19 and 20. The U of S eventually squeaked past
the Bisons to take the set 25-23.
Game
three was by far the most exciting. Manitoba led in the early part
of the set 8-4, but the Huskies fought back to a score of 8-7. The
teams battled to a tie at 11, where they score two more points to
make it 13-11. As in set two, the teams then battle to a tie score
at 13, 16, 17, 18, 22 and finally 23. The Huskies scrape up a point
to make it 24-23, but then a mental error on their side makes it
24-24. The Bisons drive a hard serve to the Huskies side where it
is returned for a point...25-24. The Bisons make one last valient
effort to tie the game and push for a set win, but the Huskies make
a big stuff block at the net, ending the evening 26-24.
