29 - It looks like winning the first set for the Wesmen is a curse.
The Wesmen for the second night in a row won the first set but dropped
the next three as they were defeated 3-1 for the second night in
a row in front of 1200 spectators at the Duckworth Centre Saturday
evening.
The
Wesmen came out on fire in the first set as Martin Rochon led the
team to a 25-21 first set win. Rochon had two kills, seven digs
and a service ace to jump start the Wesmen.
The
second set looked like a repeat of last night as the Wesmen fell
behind early but battled back to tie the set on numerous occasions
but could not put the set away as the Bisons reeled off the last
six points to give Manitoba a 25-20 second set win.
In
the third set the teams battled back and forth until the technical
timeout where the Wesmen went on a 3-0 run to take the lead at 11-8.
An illegal rotation call on the Wesmen seemed to take the momentum
away from the Wesmen as the Bisons went on to win the set 25-22.
In the fourth set the Wesmen were unable to capitalize on several
kill attempts and that allowed the Bisons to take the set 25-22
and the win the match.
Ben
Schellenberg who finished with 17 kills led the Wesmen. The Bisons
were led by Toon
Van Lankvelt who pounded away 20 kills.
