18 - In game one of the best-of-three Canada West Quarter Final
series, the Manitoba Bisons lost in three straight to UBC at Investors
Group Athletic Centre.
The
opening set of the evening saw UBC and Manitoba tie at 3 points
and then Manitoba led to the technical timeout 8-5 with a strong
service ace. UBC then starts to gain some momentum and led to 14-10
where Manitoba took a time out. UBC continues to control the set
and eventually finished at 25-18.
In
game two, there was two ties at three, six and then UBC opened up
a lead at 14-12 then they exchanges side outs until the next tie
at 17. At the end of the game, UBC opened up another 21-18 lead
and held the advantage for the rest of the game and prevailed 25-20.
In
game three, UBC charged out to an 8-4 lead at the technical timeout.
Manitoba tried to rally but could not overcome the early loss in
the game and was down 16-10 at the second technical. Manitoba was
unfortunate with some bad breaks and UBC able to play well on defense
throughout the match. The final game ended shortly after the technical
as UBC extended their lead and finished off the match with a stuff
block to win 25-13.
For
Manitoba the player of note was Toon Van Lankvelt with 7 kills,
23 attacks and 6 digs.
For
UBC the player of note was Geoff Emslie with 11 kills, 20 attacks
and 11 digs.
