6 - The University of Manitoba Bisons split the weekend series with
the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, by winninig the Saturday evening
match 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20).
The
opening set saw the Bisons win a close match 25-23. In set two,
the Bisons struggled with service errors and fell behind by a score
of 16-12. They eventually battled back to 24-23, but a close call
at the back line drew a protest and a yellow card on the Bisons.
The infraction gave the Wesmen the set win, as the Bisons were penalized
one point, putting the score at 25-23.
Set
three was all Bisons. They jumped to an early lead and never looked
back. The Wesmen struggled in this set and eventually came out on
the short end of the set 25-19.
The
final set of the night started with a long rally with the Bisons
gaining the upper hand. Some big blocks and a service ace by the
Herd helped them gain some momentuum. The Wesmen had a bit of trouble
with net violations, but to their credit battled back to an 11-16
technical time out, with the Bisons at 16. After the time out, the
teams battled to a 23-20 score. The Bisons scored one more point
on the service ace and eventually won the set with an attack shot
to win 25-20.
