19 - The Manitoba Bison defeated the Regina Cougars 3-0 (25-15,
25-19, 25-18) Friday evening at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
In
the opening set of the evening the Bisons came out ready to play
and immediately jumper to a 15-5 lead over the University of Regina
Cougars. The Cougars made somewhat of a comback and brought the
set score up to 22-13. The Bisons had the momentum however, and
quickly finished off the set 25-15.
Set
two saw Regina struggle with the long service error, while on the
other side of the court, the Bisons completed several service aces.
This set was a bit more emotional as the Cougars thought they should
have had a couple of points at the net. However, the Bisons gained
the upper hand and went on to win the set 25-19.
The
final set of the night was by far the best of the three. There were
excellent rallies, big stuff blocks and several exciting kill shots.
The two teams battled to a Bison 16 - Cougar 11 technical time out.
After the time out, the intense play continued as the Bisons pulled
ahead 18-12. There was a contoversial call that caused Regina to
get a yellow card. The set was all Bisons after that as they pulled
ahead 24-18 and finished the game with an amazing kill shot to gain
the set point.
