20 - The Manitoba Bison completed a weekend sweep of the visiting
Regina Cougars with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) Friday evening and
a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-19) on Saturday. With the sweep, Manitoba
evened their regular season record at 3-3 and Regina fell to 0-8.
The
opening set on Saturday saw the Bisons rush to a 15-8 lead over
the Cougars. A big attack by the Herd takes them to the technical
time out 16-9. After the break, the Cougars make a comeback and
push the score to 17-13 for the Bisons. The Bisons answer back with
a big attack, but the Cougars take the next rally putting the score
at 18-14. The Bisons have a bit of trouble with the long ball after
they gain their 19th point and give up two to the Cougars. The Herd
called a time out to regroup. They come out of the time out gaining
two points and the game progresses to 23-19. The Bisons are strong
at the net and the attack and end up winning the set 25-20.
Set
two starts with a big attack by the Bisons as the score the first
point. Now it's Regina's turn to have trouble with the long ball,
which allows the Bisons to run the score to 7-1. The teams battle
to an 8-4 Bison lead at the first tecnical time out. So far the
set is all Bisons, as they push the score to 13-6 where the Cougars
call a time out. After the time out, the Bisons come out with several
goos attacks and stuff blocks to go into the second technical time
out at 16-8 for the Herd. When the teams step back on the court,
the Bisons make a number of miscues, which allows the Cougars to
gain some points and put the score at 17-11. The Bisons gain their
composure and take the score up to 21-11. The teams fight to a 24-14
score, where a net violation on the Bisons prolongs the set. The
Cougars gain two, but a service error ends the set for them, giving
the Bisons the final point 24-16.
The
final set of the evening saw the two teams battle to a 5-5 tie in
the opening moments. The Cougars gain a slim margin over the Herd
and take the score to 8-7 at the time out. The Bisons hit the court
after the break with an amazing tip play at the net, followed by
a service ace and a stuff block to go up 10-8 and force the Cougars
to call a time out. After the Regina time out the two teams trade
points on a back and forth match, with the Bisons coming out ahead
at the second technical time out 16-13. The Bisons come out and
gain three more points after the break, but the Cougars answer back
with three of their own and the Bisons call a time out at 19-13.
The game progresses to 24-19 for the Bisons, but they can't find
the final point to finish off the match. The Bisons are able to
gain match point on the next play, when they go on the attack and
the blocked ball by the Cougars goes out to end the set and the
evening 25-19.
