27 - Terry Danyluk's Alberta Golden Bears volleyball swept the visiting
Manitoba Bisons, winning match two in three straight sets to take
the series and likely keep the CIS #1 ranking. Posting scores of
25-22, 25-18 and 25-20, the Bears now own a Conference record of
9-1 heading into the Christmas break and a 16-2 overall record.
Nicholas
Cundy was big man at the net tonight for Alberta as he put down
a team high 11 kills, hitting on just 18 attempts. He also managed
three digs and four block assists. Dallas Soonias (3rd, Red Deer,
AB) and Alex Gaumont Casias (1st, Marieville, QC) chipped in big
kill numbers as well, finishing with nine and eight kill respectively.
Setter Brock Davidiuk (4th, Edmonton) and Libero Kevin Hatch (2nd,
Calgary) shared the team high in digs with five a-piece. Davidiuk
also had 27 set assists.
Alberta's
attacked played particularly well in the final frame connecting
on 14 of 24 attack attempts and just two attack errors for a .500
hitting percentage.
Manitoba's
Toon van Lankvelt (3rd, Rivers, MB) continued his offensively inspiring
play, banking a game high 14 kills in the loss. Sean Jones (2nd,
Hamilton) finished with 10 kills, while van Lankvelt dug up a team
high five digs.
