January 14 - The University of Manitoba Bisons battled their cross-town rivals the Unviersity of Winnipeg Wesmen. The Bisons defeated the Wesmen 3-2 (24-26, 25- 23, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9) in an exciting five sets.

The Wesmen came out strong in the first two sets. In the second set Winnipeg was leading by six at the second technical time out. The Bisons battled back hard winning the set 25-23, ending the second set with a match score of 1-1.

The Bisons had a solid third set winning 25-18, but the Wesmen did not give up winning the fourth set 25- 22, taking the Bisons to a fifth and deciding set.

Although both teams battled hard, the Bisons came out on top winning the fifth set 15-9, and taking the match.

The Bisons had a total of 19 team blocks, with the Wesmen only having 9.5 on the night.

Ben Schellenberg had 23 kills for the Wesmen, and Dustin Addison-Schnedider had 54 assists.

The Bisons had strong performances from Josh Klassen with 18 kils and 3 blocks, and Toon Van Lankvelt with 16 kills. Drew Venables had 45 assists and a team high of 8 blocks.

This win improves the Bisons record to 6-5 and drops Winnipeg to 7-5 record in CanWest play. The will meet again on Wednesday January 18, 2006 at the Investors Group Athletic Center.
