February
3 - The University of Regina Cougars can hold their heads high despite
being swept on home court by the University of Manitoba Bisons Friday.
The Cougars sent two of the three sets into extra-points (25-19,
26-24, 30-28) before the Bisons were finally able to finish the
match.
“If
we were able to pick up a couple of points, we would be ahead 2-1
heading into the fourth set,” Cougars men’s volleyball coach Scott
Schutz said. “That’s all we can do … The future looks bright for
us if we can play like that.”
Cougar
left-side hitter Chris Knoop hammered 19 kills into the court, but
also contributed defensively with seven digs, a block and solid
serving.
“He’s consistent. That’s normal for him. He did a pretty good job
serving consistently. He swung better than I’ve seen him swing in
a long time,” Schutz said.
Cougars
libero Anthony Dipaola led the team with 10 digs, playing in his
second-last CIS home game. Matthew Brooks chipped in 12 kills and
four digs for Regina.
Manitoba’s
balanced attack was led by Toon
van Lankvelt, with nine kills and four digs.
Both teams meet again at the University of Regina on Saturday at
7 p.m.
