3 - In the first set, Manitoba took a 8-4 lead into the first official
timeout. Throughout the first set, the Bisons dominated at the net
and frustrated the Rouge et Or with a balanced attack from all sides
of the net. The Bisons were ahead 16-6 at the second timeout and
extended the lead with blocks and service aces. The Herd scored
the last five points in a row for a commanding 25-9 set win.
In
the second set, Laval came out firing and had a lead of 8-6 at the
first break and a lead at the second. The Bisons closed the gap
at the end with strong play at the net and won the last two crucial
points to close out the set 25-23.
In
the third and final set, the Bisons were behind for the majority
of the game. Laval had a quick 8-3 lead and extended it to 14-8
before the Bisons rallied. Toon
van Lankvelt had a service ace and a couple of double and triple
blocks set up their first lead of the set at 19-18. Laval called
a timeout and the two team battled back-and-forth with side outs
before the Bisons finished off the match with a Drew
Venables service ace and a 28-26 set win.

Lankvelt was named Player of the Game for Manitoba as he recorded
8 kills on 13 attempts with zero errors.
The
Bisons recorded their 45th CIS Championship match victory in 60
matches since the 1982 CIS Championships.
Manitoba
will now take #2 Trinity Western in Saturday's semi-final.
