Saskatchewan 3, Manitoba 1
by Devin Heroux, Huskies Sport Information Assistant

November 4 -

Game 1
The opening set between the U of S Huskies and U of M Bisons was a see-saw battle going back and forth for a good part of this game. With the score 16-15 for the Bisons however, Bison Joshua Klassen and Kyle Joslin stepped up their games which ultimately lead to a four nothing run and a commanding U of M set one win. The final score in set one: 25-19 U of M.

Game 2
With the Huskies knowing that they would have to be better to have any chance of winning this match, homegrown talents Brandon Needham and All-Canadian in 2004 Mark Dodds picked up their games. This set would come down to which team made the least amount of mistakes down the stretch. As it turns out the Bisons gave away three set points, and when the Huskies finally got their one chance to finish the set, they closed the deal. Make the final in set two Huskies 29 the Bisons 27.

Game 3
A fairly good crowd had gathered at the PAC this night and the Huskies were hoping to thrive off the energy from the crowd in set three and keep their momentum going. Again, this set would be a spirited affair with lead changes happening every minute. Again this set would go to a two-set tie break which would showcase Mark Dodds and his serving capabilities. With a chance to serve out the match, Mark Dodds would do just that. The veteran native of Lucky Lake ripped a serve on set point for an ace, giving the Huskies a third set win 27-25.

Game 4
The Manitoba Bisons were in every set all night long, losing the past two sets in tie-breaking scenarios. Again this set would follow suit, making for some great final points. With the Huskies looking like they would run away with a convincing victory, the Bisons got tough on defence, sending back everything the Huskies sent at them. The final set would be tied at 23 until once again Mark Dodds made two big plays to close the game out. The final set score would finish 25-23 for the Huskies and a 3-1 victory overall.

The Bisons now drop to 0-1 in their Volleyball season while the Huskies move a game about .500 with a 2-1 record.

Coach Brian Gavlas was quite impressed with his team's performance tonight, how could he not be. "That's a pretty big game for us, a very important win. We were beat pretty good in the first game, but battling back like we did in three close games tells me that this team has guts."
