November
3 - The University of Manitoba Bisons mens volleyball team has an
official rival in the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.
The
Bisons (0-1) fell to the Wesmen (3-0) for the second time of 2006
at Investors Group Athletic Centre Friday night, dropping their
season opener 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23) after a tough preseason
match two weeks ago.
Josh
Klassen led the Bisons with 15 kills, but the hard-swinging
Manitoba offence was ultimately no match for the blocking of Winnipeg’s
front lines and also no match for their own service errors. Manitoba
committed 15 errors behind the line and though they battled hard
could not pull a complete series or game together.
Andrew
Town and Richard Wiebe each posted 11 kills to lead the Wesmen and
Wiebe fired four service aces in the match.
Manitoba's
next action will be on November 10 & 11 in Vancouver, B.C. when
they look for their first win of the season against UBC.
