17 - Led by setter Drew Venables, the University of Manitoba Bisons
swept the Regina Cougars in straight sets on Saturday night in a
Canada West men’s volleyball regular season match at the Centre
for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Venables
was one kill and two digs short of a rare triple-double, ending
up with 24 assists, nine kills, eight digs, and four blocks during
the three-set match. Venables’ nine kills came on just 11
attacks, ending up with a match-high .727 hitting percentage.
The
Bisons won the three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-18.
Libero
Spencer Hoehn had a match-high 10 digs and added four assists for
the Bisons, while Stefan Bouw chipped in with nine kills and four
digs.
Middle
blocker Jeff Anuik had a match-high 11 kills for the Cougars, hitting
for a .588 percentage during the contest. Anuik also led all players
with four block assists. Ryan DeCosse had 30 assists and eight digs
for Regina.
Manitoba’s
win, its second in two nights over the Cougars, improves the team’s
record to 2-4 on the season. Regina drops to 1-5.
The
Cougars will travel to Kamloops, B.C. next weekend for a pair of
matches against No. 8-ranked Thompson Rivers. Manitoba will host
Calgary on Friday and Saturday in Winnipeg. |
